Over Goa Casino Solid Waste Link with Swine Flu |

Off-shore casinos and swine flu, two of the most contentious
issues that have shared the media glare for wrong reasons
are incidentally found to be feeding off each other
in the tourist state of Goa.
The solid waste generated by all the six off-shore casinos
plying in the Mandovi River finds its way to the state
piggery farm at Tivim village, 15 km away from capital
Panaji. The casinos were rebuked by the Goa Pollution
Control Board (GPCB) for leaving the waste in Mandovi
river basin by contaminating it.
The floating casinos also faced few hours of closure,
last month, forced on them by the board pending the
reply to the show cause notice on disposal of garbage.
The casino operators, in their reply to the pollution
control board, have said that they have employed a private
firm to collect the waste from the ship and dispose
it off outside the city jurisdiction.
Incidentally, all the off-shore casinos
have employed services of single firm M/s C Farm Product
and services, which is disposing off the garbage by
transporting to the piggery farm.
