Dear Reader,
Greetings. Innovation is essential for sustaining the growth of any industry. In the case of Information Technology and its allied knowledge segments of ITES and BPO, innovation assumes critical importance in view of increasing pressure from competition. Hence there is need for new processes and new software products. The National Association of Software Companies (NASSCOM) is aware of the gravity of the situation. The apex organization of the IT industry recently organized a seminar on Innovation, gathering an impressive panel of thought leaders. The Cover Story of the current issue of Outsourcing deals with the crucial aspect of innovation, which has also been the concern of the government, as expressed by Kapil Sibal, Minister for Science and Technology. The small and medium business (SMB) segment is an important growth component of the economy. For their own growth, SMBs need to leverage the power of ICT, which in turn will help boost the domestic IT demand. We carry an India-Brazil ICT study in this regard. An eagerly awaited annual event on India's IT calendar is the annual NASSCOM India Leadership Forum. The Leadership Forum 2007 will be held in Mumbai from 7 to 9 February 2007 and the conclave is divided into 35 sessions in which more than 150 eminent speakers will make presentations on such issues as leadership, global sourcing, technology and innovation. We carry a detailed report. Genpact is among the fastest growing BPO companies in India. Taking advantage of India's export incentive policies, Genpact is setting up three Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in three states of Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Rajasthan. The issue carries the report as part of Genpact's expansion plans. India's western State of Maharashtra has always been in the forefront in industrial development and in attracting direct foreign investment. In the focus section of the magazine, we highlight Maharashtra's overall economic progress. Small entrepreneurs have always been treated by banks with caution if not suspicion. But, Global Trade Finance Ltd, a subsidiary of Export Import Bank of India, has not only been liberal in extending export credit to small players, but also gone further by offering e-loans, which can be obtained, online. We carry a story. At a global level Goggle and Bosky have entered into a tie-up for carrying the former's search engine on the latter's broadband. A report. Apart from these, the current issue carries outsourcing news, both local as well as global.
