Dear
Reader,
Greetings.
With youthful
and ebullient
South Australian
Premier Mike Rann
visiting India
yet again, the
business adrenaline
is gushing high.
Rann is on his
third mission
to this country
in the past two
years is a clear
signal of the
possibilities
that exist in
terms of boosting
bilateral trade
between his State
and India. Rann's
business mission
throws up investment
opportunities
for entrepreneurs
in both South
Australia and
India in a number
of promising areas,
ranging from energy
to entertainment.
The cover story
of the current
issue of Indo-Australian
Business looks
at Premier Rann's
positive approach
to the issues
of energy (he
is a great champion
of 'Green Power'),
industrial growth
and curbing unemployment.
India may be a
developing country,
but it is the
world's biggest
consumer of gold.
The precious metal
also binds India
and Australia,
the latter being
the world's third
largest producer
of the yellow
metal and its
second biggest
exporter. Addressing
the Second Gold
Summit in New
Delhi, Australian
High Commissioner
John McCarthy
has said that
the precious metal
offered great
scope to step
up two-way investment
in mining as well
as trade. In another
business meeting
McCarthy also
talked about the
rising bilateral
trade, helped
by energy and
services sector.
These reports
form the focus
of the current
issue. Australian
Prime Minister
John Howard recalled
about India's
strategic importance
in the region
as an emerging
economic power
in a keynote address
at the 2006 Accor
Qantas function
in Sydney. We
carry a report.
We also carry
an overview of
the activities
of Australia India
Business Council
(AIBC), which
has just celebrated
its 20th anniversary,
with satisfaction
over growing bilateral
trade. In a significant
collaboration
on the retail
front, the Tatas
have joined hands
with Australia's
Woolworth to launch
the first of their
Croma chain. We
report. Along
with other regular
features, the
current issue
also caries a
tourism special
on South Autralia
bringing into
focus the stunning
landscapes of
that state.
Wish you happy
