Australian Pride Peter Lehmann Wines wins
GLOBAL BEST PRIZE

Australia's Peter Lehmann Wines has won the prestigious 'White Winemaker of the Year' Trophy at the 2006 International Wine Challenge in London. The results announced recently at the official award ceremony in London UK were very pleasing to Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan.
With over 9000 wines being entered from 35 different countries in this year's IWC, it was clearly a very strong showing from Peter Lehmann Wines.
Peter Lehmann Wines was successful with the 2001 Reserve Riesling winning the Australian Riesling Trophy and Australian White Trophy, and the 2005 Eden Valley Riesling winning a Gold Medal.
Wigan said, "It is a great honour to receive such a prestigious trophy and to be recognized as a winery that makes exceptional quality wines from some of the Barossa's best varieties.”
These trophies are a true testament to the white winemaking skills of Peter Lehmann's winemakers, and a reflection of the diversity and uniqueness of the Barossa Valley. The Eden Valley is growing both in stature and reputation as one of the true great Riesling winemaking regions within the world.
Managing Director Doug Lehmann said, "It will be drinks all round at the winery tonight….especially Riesling! Being awarded 'White Winemaker of the Year' is further recognition of our commitment and dedication to crafting Barossa wines of the highest calibre. This is not our only success at the International Wine Challenge as we have previously been awarded 'Red wine of the Year' in 2000 with our 1998 Barossa Shiraz. With access to some of the best vineyards in the Barossa, and over 185 growers supplying the highest quality fruit across the Valley, we are extremely confident of continuing to grow our profile on a world stage well into the future."
Peter Lehmann Wines is one of Australia's most respected and innovative winemakers, creating wines that delight wine lovers around the globe. Winemaking operations are carried out at a single site located near Tanunda, in the heart of the internationally famous Barossa Valley, South Australia.
Since 2003, Peter Lehmann Wines has been a member of the Hess Group, proud owner of four great wineries under one sky - Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley, The Hess Collection Winery in the Napa Valley, Glen Carlou in South Africa and Bodega Colomé in Argentina.
The 2001 Reserve Riesling and the 2005 Eden Valley Riesling have both been highly awarded on the Australian & International Wine Show circuits within the last 12 months; the 2001 Reserve Riesling has amassed 14 trophies and 18 gold medals to date.
With exceptional results at the International Wine Challenge, Peter Lehmann Wines was awarded the following;
2002 'The Mudflat' Shiraz Muscadelle - Gold Medal Winner 2003 Melbourne Wine Show, uniquely Peter Lehmann.
Back in the 1960's Peter Lehmann pioneered blending Shiraz with the white wine variety, Muscadelle (or Tokay as it was known back then). He sought to develop a red wine style which was richly flavoured yet with a soft, intriguingly spicy lift. Our winemakers continue this unique blend today with the '02 Mudflat- rich and voluptuous with a velvet mouth feel, deep red in colour and black fruits with spicy savoury edges. Simply delicious!
