A
self help cure-all
Acupressure is known to the Eastern
world since centuries. The World
Health Organization as per their
letter has also recognized it in
1980. One has to remember that at
least 150 points out of a total
of 950 points all over the body
are needed to administer acupressure.
This can be extremely difficult
for most of us to do so. Hence,
acupressure is usually left to the
experts.
Prof. Park Jae Woo realized this
and wanted to create a system that
could be practiced by one and all.
He conducted extensive research
and modified and simplified acupressure
to such an extent that there is
no necessity to remember any points
at all. He found that the hands
and feet are the replicas of our
body.
So he named the system Su Jok Acupressure.
SU means hand and JOK means Foot
in Korean language. It is so easy
to learn that even children can
pick up the technique in an hour.
We
give below a Short Note on Su Jok
Acupressure Therapy. There are five
parts to the body protruding from
our trunk. Two arms, two legs and
a head. From our palm and sole of
the foot, four fingers and the thumb
are jutting out. The legs are in
the center and arms outside. The
index and the little finger are
outside and are found to correspond
to our arms. The inner two fingers
correspond to the legs.
Looking at the left-hand palm, the
index finger corresponds to the
left hand and the little finger
to the right hand. If you look at
the palm of your right hand your
little finger will correspond to
the left hand.
Our legs have three joints -hip,
knee and the ankle or heel. The
middle and ring fingers also have
three joints- the one connected
to the palm will correspond to the
hip, the next one to the knee and
the third to the ankle or heel.
Similarly the arms are connected
to the trunk at the shoulders. The
joints connecting the index and
little finger to the palm correspond
to the shoulders. The next is joined
to the elbow, the one after the
wrist.
Our head has two joints, so also
the thumb. The lower portion of
the thumb corresponds to the neck
and the upper part to the face.
If you know acupressure and you
want to treat your headache you
will have to recollect which point
to press for the headache. But Su
Jok is simple. Hold the back of
your thumb facing you, take a ball
pen, hexagonal stem pencil or a
match stick.

The refill part of the ball pen
has to be removed, or the sharp
lead of the pencil has to be made
blunt. Consider the tip of the thumb
as your head; if the pain is on
the right side try to probe the
point that is paining with the blunt
tip of pencil or ball pen or any
kind of probe.
You will find one or two points
that are really painful but if you
were to press the tip with the other
thumb you will feel nothing. Now
keeping the probe on the pain, point
just move it clockwise and anti-clockwise.
You will find it painful, but doing
it for a minute or so you will be
surprised to find your pain reducing.
The portion between the tip of the
thumb and the first joint on it
corresponds to the face. Divide
it in approximately four parts.
The first part from the tip corresponds
to the head, the second to the forehead,
the third to the eyes, nose and
ears and fourth to the mouth and
chin.
The lifeline on the mount of the
palm corresponds to the diaphragm
therefore above that is the heart
and lungs. The rest of the palm
corresponds to the abdomen.
If we draw an imaginary straight
line from the middle of the two
middle fingers up to the wrist on
the back of the palm, it corresponds
to the lower portion of our spinal
chord. Similarly the line drawn
on the middle of the back of our
thumb to the wrist corresponds to
the cervical portion of our spinal
chord.
For lower backache, take the probe
as described above and try to find
points along the imaginary line
i.e. from the middle of the two
fingers to the wrist, in the valley
formed by the bones of these middle
fingers, you will find some painful
points. On each painful point, hold
the probe and rotate clockwise and
anti- clockwise for a few seconds.
You will find the pressure painful,
but at the same time, you will experience
relief from your backache. You will
have to repeat the treatment four
times a day.
