Dear
Reader,
Greetings. India
and South Africa
are bound by
a bond that
is much stronger,
and whose meaning
is much deeper,
than the mundane
economic relations
and bilateral
trade. This
bond signifies
the ideals of
Mahatma Gandhi
and the values
he stood and
fought for.
Mohandas Karamchand
Gandhi, the
young Barrister,
discovered his
life's Mission,
in traumatic
conditions in
South Africa,
then reeling
under racist
white rule,
before setting
sail for India.
The rest, as
they say, is
history, but
its landmarks
and milestones
are never forgotten.
Recently, both
India and South
Africa commemorated
the Centenary
of Satyagraha,
the mass protest
movement that
the England-educated
Indian lawyer
launched in
Johannesburg
in September
1906, against
racist oppression.
The occasion
prompted Prime
Minister Manmohan
Singh to pay
a three-day
visit to South
Africa to join
President Mbeki
and the people
of that country
in recalling
the struggles
and sacrifices
made by the
Mahatma and
to pledge to
stand by the
ideals followed
by the Great
Soul in letter
and spirit.
Both Prime Minister
Singh and President
Mbeki took the
opportunity
to review the
ongoing cooperation
and collaboration
between the
two countries
in a vast number
of political,
economic, social
and cultural
areas. The two
leaders signed
a joint declaration
reiterating
the need for
further strengthening
the existing
bonds. The current
issue of Indo-African
Business covers
in-depth Prime
Minister Singh's
truly historic
visit to South
Africa. The
continent of
Africa stands
pretty high
in India's global
economic bonding.
India-Africa

Enclaves that
have been held
in the last
two years mark
the highpoints
in escalating
bilateral trade
between an emerging
economic power
and a vibrant
continent looking
for investment,
technology and
services. The
October 2006
conclave is
the Focus of
the current
issue. Africa,
as an enchanting
continent, has
always attracted
tourists, especially
those who love

as well as its
