India-Africa
Conclave
to Unveil Vision
2015
The
India-Africa
Partnership
Conclave, which
is being held
in New Delhi
from 19 to 21
March, 2008
is expected
to draft a significant
position paper
to further strengthen
the economic
relations between
the two sides.
The position
paper, titled
“India
Africa Project
Partnership:
Vision 2015”,
will be discussed
at a summit
level dialogue
which will be
held in April
this year.
In the Past
two years the
Conclaves on
India Africa
Project Partnership
have created
a credible platform
for information,
dialogue and
better understanding
to propagate
and build long
term sustainable
economic relations.
This access
to information
and interaction
has been instrumental
in the increased
private sector
dialogue between
India and Africa.
Conclave focus
• Local
value addition
to the abundant
natural resources
• The
need to make
available goods
& services
at affordable
prices particularly
for semi urban
population
• To augment
the local production
to meet the
demands of the
growing middle
class consumer
market &
reduce the dependence
on imports
• Need
to generate
employment through
replication
of the Indian
model in agriculture
& the SME
These needs
are assessed
from the continuous
interaction
and engagement
of the CII membership
and the African
delegations
and is reflected
in a wide spectrum
of areas such
as, transport
infrastructure,
power and energy,
water and sanitation,
telecommunications,
healthcare,
tourism, information
technology,
human resource
development
etc.
The strides
made by the
Indian technology
and manufacturing
sectors over
the last decade
now enables
them to provide
acceptable solutions
in technology
and project
goods. This
is particularly
significant
in light of
the 'look east'
policy of the
African nations
and the definite
recognition
of Indian technology
and project
goods as more
suitable and
sustainable
in the context
of their current
state of development.
Today's Africa
is ready to
accept Indian
technical consultancy
and manufacturing
industry to
participate
in a major way
in its developmental
initiatives.
This is compounded
by the fact
that the Indian
Government is
also making
a concerted
effort to direct
its developmental
cooperation
programmes in
a major way
towards Africa.
The recent announcement
by the Government
of an India-Africa
Summit during
April is a step
in this direction.
The Conclave
proposes to
supplement the
efforts of the
Government of
India to ensure
that relevant
industry position
is articulated
for the benefit
of the Summit
level dialogue.
As such the
discussions
during the Conclave
will help in
producing a
position paper
on the “India
Africa Project
Partnership:
Vision 2015”.
The CII - Exim
Conclaves on
India Africa
Project Partnership
has helped realise
some part of
this potential.
The Conclave
on India Africa
Project Partnership
2008 is being
organized with
this view in
mind.
OBJECTIVES
The underlying
objective of
this initiative
will be to catalyse
Indian participation
as a key partner
in Africa's
developmental
processes.
In specific
terms, the Conclave
is expected
to:

upon the momentum
gathered due
to the Conclaves
in 2005 and

partnerships
at three levels

= Institutional
= Enterprise
• Increase

on Indian enterprise
to the Africans

mobilization
beyond the government
of India lines
of credit
