Government approves continuation of Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval to extend the period of validity of CLCSS during XI Plan period for the benefit of Micro and Small Enterprises.

The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has been operating for technology up gradation of Small Scale Industries under which 15% capital subsidy on the Institutional Finance was provided in specified sub-sectors/products for induction of well established and improved technologies approved under the scheme. The validity of this scheme was upto 31.03.2007 i.e. the end of X Five Year Plan.

 

Positive Budget for healthcare, hospitals and pharma companies. The weighted deduction of 125% to R&D will add back significantly to profits. Excise duties coming down from 16% to 8% for all pharmaceutical products is very positive for all patients and consumers. Custom duties for lifesaving drugs coming down, excise duties coming down to nil for lifesaving drugs; for HIV AIDS products excise duties coming down is a very strong message for the industry, for the consumers.

India to develop microbicides at earliest: Ramadoss

New patents reached a record 156,100 an increase by 4.7% - WIPO

According to the provisional data from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), under the WIPO Patent Cooperation Treaty, the number of applications from India has come down to 686 in 2007 from 831 in the previous year. China, Japan and South Koreas were the main driver behind record patent growth in 2007 accounting for more than a quarter of new registrations. U.S. is still in # 1 slot but China, Japan and South Korea saw large increases.

 
India a major hub for clinical studies

Indian Clinical trial market is estimated to grow to $ 2 billion and the numbers of hospitals that are engaged in global and local clinical trials are expected to grow to 14,000 by 2010.

Drug under development for a disease undergoes extensive studies in animals and humans to establish its safety and efficacy at a particular dose, prior to being marketed. Clinical trials represent a bridge from early stage drug development to commercialization. This bridge cannot be bypassed and is long and expensive to cross.
