Clean-technologies Canadian SMEs Targeted
for 14 Tech Summit, India

International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada) in collaboration with Global Innovation and Technology Alliance (GITA) has invited Canadian SME's in the area of clean technologies to join a Technology Partnership mission to the 14th Annual Tech Summit to be held in New Delhi (India) from 5-7 December, 2008. Attendance to the "14th Technology Summit and Technology Platform" (the largest technology event in India for the last 13 years) on 5-6 Dec would open up further scope to network and meet with potential partner companies at the event. This would be an excellent opportunity for Canadian SME's with a focus on Clean Development Mechanism to develop business and R&D relationships with Indian SME sector. ISTPCanada together with GITA intend to set-up one-on-one meetings (matchmaking session) between the Canadian SME's with their Indian counterparts which would fall on 7 December.

Academic researchers have also been invited at the match-making event and may even find the opportunity to meet Canadian and Indian companies whose technology can be enhanced by the academia and industry collaboration. Canadian companies stand qualified for ISTPCanada support if GITA manage to identify a partner company in India for match-making.

The following are the key areas of focus of this initiative: Renewable Energy & Alternate Fuels, Water Technology & Management, Intelligent Transportation, Waste Management, Energy Intensive Industries, Climate Science & Modeling, Policy Enabling Investment.

It is worth noting that India's National Action Plan on Climate Change, released on 30 June this year, emphasized the need for innovation, collaborative R&D and technology transfer in order to achieve a low carbon economy. Technology is expected to play a critical role in mitigation of climate change and for establishing a low-emissions industrial infrastructure. Significant transformation of the conventional technology used to produce and distribute energy, manufacture goods and provide transportation is required to achieve target reductions. Against the backdrop of high energy and material prices, Indian industry is looking to develop and adapt technologies for cost effective processes and manufacturing globally competitive products. Indian industry is also keen to tap into the booming carbon credit market. In this perspective, the 14th Technology Summit and Technology Platform is dedicated to "Investments in Clean Technologies".

India's commitment to clean technologies opens up enormous opportunities for Canadian SME's to be participants in this growth.
