Kerala Software Park to Undergo Expansion

The second phase of the software Infopark in Kochi will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model over 160 acres.

The property is to be acquired by the end of this year said Infopark chief executive Siddhartha Bhattacharya. It is still undecided as to who would develop the park, whether it would be Infopark or the newly-promoted Kerala State IT Infrastructure Ltd
The first phase has been built over 102 acres and is existing at full capacity. In four and a half years, the software park has employed 9,000 people. So far 2.5 million square feet has already been constructed and another two million square feet is still under construction.

According to him, the two million square feet is being developed by Infopark and co-developers like Larsen and Toubro, Wipro and Tata Consultancy. Infopark on its own will develop half a million square feet.

Maintaining that the downturn did not have any major impact on IT companies in Kerala, Bhattacharya added that in order to assist small and medium-sized companies, a decision has been taken to defer 50 percent of the rent from units located in the park for a year.
