Mission Accomplished!

Dear Reader,

We at Asian Nuclear Energy are delighted to note that the recent visit to India of the high-powered US Nuclear Trade Mission has been successful. The Mission members and its facilitators - the US-India Business Council and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) - deserve credit. Steve Hucik, Senior Vice President, GE-Hitachi and leader of the mission said the Indo-US civilian nuclear energy deal has got off to a flying start going by the progress the mission had achieved during its five-day visit of this country. Asian Nuclear Energy, in its cover story highlights the mission's success. The Mission's objective of exploring the opportunities in India and what the US firms could offer their Indian counterparts in terms of the state-of-the-art technology appears to have been achieved if some of the observations by the delegates are any indication. In the Focus section, we carry the US-based nuclear equipment maker Westinghouse Electric Company's announcement that its participation in the trade mission is the beginning of a long and mutually rewarding relationship with a wide range of Indian power companies, suppliers and academic institutions. Westinghouse plans to enter the Indian nuclear market with its AP 1000 Plant. In the collaboration section we are carrying excerpts of a speech delivered by US Consul General in Mumbai Paul A. Folmsbee at the end of the Mission's India visit, in which he said the US and India make excellent partners in the field of nuclear energy. Under Profile, we present the Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), a major operating subsidiary of McDermott International, a leader in advanced energy technology innovation and service, primarily in nuclear and fossil power.
