China's Guangdong Group sets up
JV N-Plant in Anhui


China Knowledge reported that China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group has set up a joint venture in eastern China's Anhui province for the construction of the country's first inland nuclear power plant.

According to report, the joint venture called Anhui Wuhu Nuclear Power Co will be responsible for the preparation, construction and operation of the first phase of the Anhui Wuhu nuclear power project. The new company is jointly owned by CGNPG, Shenergy Co Ltd, Anhui Province Energy Group and Shanghai Electric Power Co Ltd respectively.

The Wuhu nuclear power plant will generate around 30 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year upon completion. Part of the electricity will be transmitted to Shanghai and the rest part of the Yangtze River Delta Region. The nuclear plant is estimated to involve a total investment of approximately CNY 50 billion.

A feasibility study on the Wuhu plant has reportedly been completed and the project is still subject to the final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission.
